Our History

Once you walk through the front door, you completely forget about the busy town centre outside and are transported into a different bygone world of peace and luxury, surrounded by seven hundred years of history in one building. The grand grade II listed Georgian townhouse began life in the medieval period, featuring its restored two-storey medieval wall, intact ground garderobe, and double vaulted medieval ceiling. Over the centuries, the property has been carefully expanded to reveal the Tudor, Regency, early to late Georgian periods.

Once owned by the Sackville family of Knole House, it became the Crown Judges' lodgings for a couple of hundred years until as recently as 1968. In more recent times, Stone Court House changed hands multiple times, eventually becoming squatted, vandalised, and abandoned after the financial crash of 2008. It was even placed on Historic England's risk register due to its potential collapse.

In August 2019, Mrs Belinda May Demirbasa and her family purchased Stone Court House as a private family home, investing millions to restore the building to its former glory. However, it soon became apparent that it would be a shame to keep such a beautiful and historic house private. Therefore, parts of Stone Court House were opened to the public, allowing everyone to enjoy the splendour of this historic gem in Maidstone.
